Author Q&A

The following questions may be used for any publication. If you would like written consent, or have other questions to be answered, please contact us at chris@kidcombat.com

  • Why did you decide to write Kid Combat?
The ideas for KC have been locked in my brain for years; probably ever since I was KC's age. For about a year I pondered back and forth if it would make a good story. One day, I decided I wanted to find out and just started writing.
  • Where did you get the idea for this book?
The outlines for Volume 1, and for all the volumes for that matter, are based on my childhood. Just "enhanced" a bit.
  • How long did it take you to write the first Volume?
Its difficult to say. The whole process from beginning to write it (April 04) to being published (October 07) was about 3 years.
  • When did you know you wanted to be a writer? Was there something in particular that got you interested in writing?
I don’t think I ever consciously sat down and said, "Hey, I'm going to become a writer." It was more by accident. One day I just started writing and no one really told me to stop. (Laughs).
  • Did you base the characters in the book on people you know or knew?
There are a few characters in the book that are inspired by people I have met in my life, yes. Jones in particular.
  • What kind of student were you in high school?
I was a bit of a class clown growing up. School was a bit slow for me and I found my mind wondering a lot. Good for writing books, bad for the classroom.
  • Are you currently working on a new book?
Volume II is currently going through the final rounds of editing and Volume III is in the very early stages of being outlined and written.
  • Besides writing, what else do you like to do?
I enjoy playing sports. Hockey, baseball, golf, and tennis mostly.
  • Aside from writing, what is one talent you wish you had?
I wish I could draw. It would be so much easier for me if I could. But, I cant. Not at all. Now I have to pay someone to do that for me.
  • Do you have any advice for future writers?
Believe in the dreams you hold so real. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't write or that your idea won't sell. Its hard work, but if you believe in it'll be worth it.
