It was one of the cloudiest days Elmcrest had seen in awhile. The big, white, puffy clouds blocked out the sun and a thick fog hovered throughout Elmcrest.
It was the week before Ricky's sixth birthday. Ricky's favorite summer activity, by far, was playing baseball at Maple Forest with the other boys in town. He was always the best hitter on his team and was always an early draft pick before every game. All that changed for Ricky in a blink of an eye...
Making his way on his dirt bike to Maple Forest on that foggy day, Ricky was blindsided by a speeding car as he passed by Lincoln Elementary. He was sent from his bike and was instantly paralyzed. The doctors said he would never play ball again, but you will never convince Ricky of that.
In the summer following the rescue of Samantha from Jones (as chronicled in Volume I: A Secret Lost), Ricky's old friend Kyle Christensen approached him with an offer he could never refuse.
A week after Samantha was safe, SOCKs was hard at work on a case of utmost importance. It seemed that someone or something was threatening their favorite toy store - Spring Road Toys. The team needed every member of their small group at top speed and working on this case. Fortunately for Ricky, this was not the case.
Around day nine, Gears went missing for the day. He never showed up to The Playground that morning. Kid, worried about his friend, went to go check on him. Kid returned back to The Playground with grave news - Gears had chicken pox. He would be sidelined for at least a week.
 Kid knew he needed a computer expert on his team. There was no way they would be able to crack the encryption without one. Kid used this opportunity to approach the rest of the SOCKs team about bringing on his friend Ricky to the team. With enthusiastic support, the team agreed Ricky would be a great fit.
The following day, Ricky - now known as Roller - was a part of the SOCKs team.
