The Kid Combat series of books has enjoyed a lot of success within the classroom. The first volume has been read to many classrooms around the United States and with each year the number continues to grow.

With the help of independent teachers, lesson plans and classroom activites (centers, word finds, jumbles, etc) have been designed and used to help enhance the Kid Combat reading experience.

This page is used as a place holder for all those activities. We always welcome new ideas and new activities. Feel free to email us at anytime with any of your ideas. Email us at chris@kidcombat.com.

Lesson Plans

The lesson plans have been designed to be used as a tool before, during, and after reading the book. There are pre-reading activities, chapter vocabulary words, and writing assignments.

Pre-reading activities include having classroom discussions.

Chapter lessons include vocabulary words, classroom discussions, as well as written assignments.

Centers

The centers are getting the most attention. They are to be used after the book is read. In the centers, kids will be asked for many of things, including: coming up with a new Gadget for Wedge, rewrite the Chapter titles and explain your new title, and coming up with the next mission!

Chapter Book

The chapter book is a variation to the lesson plans that can be used in correlation with or instead of the lesson plans. In it, at the end of each chapter, the students will be asked to draw a picture of the chapter. Then they are asked a few questions. The three questions used in the example are: Favorite part of the chapter, predictions in the next chapter, and question for the author (this book was originally used for an author visit). We have included this as a Word Document instead of a PDF so you can edit the questions and make it a unique experience for your class.

Note: You will need to print one sheet per chapter per student.

Character Traits

Another teacher has come up with the Character Trait worksheet. This can be used at any time. Each page below has a different character on it and asks the kids to draw a picture for the character and how they imagine them to look. Then, they are asked to list a description of the character.
On the bottom, there is room for further questions or activites. In the example, the teacher asked two questions - what is your favorite trait of the character and what is your question for the author (this teacher had an author visit). Feel free to come up with your own questions.
(You can add more questions in Word by clicking on "Insert" and then "Add Textbox".)
