Over the past few years, Kid Combat has received praise. Not just from us here in KC Land, but from kids, parents, teachers, and educators of all kind. Here, are a few of their kind words:
A few of the teachers have made themselves available to us for follow ups. If you would like to start a dialouge with a teacher, please contact us at admin@kidcombat.com.
"I teach fourth grade and have read The Adventures of Kid Combat: Volume One" to my students. In my thirteen years of teaching, I have never had students so enthralled with a book. Whenever I stopped reading, the students always wanted more. They connected with the characters, and were excited by the action.
As an educator, and a parent, it is nice to find a book that is appropriate for all ages. The book does not contain any controversial issues, does not contain viloence, and does not contain weapons.
My school had the pleasure of having Mr. Helwink at our Family Reading Night. His book was among the top sellers. Plus, he was well received by parents, students, and staff.

Looking for a great read aloud book that will capture your students’ interest from the first sentence to the last? Then I recommend a new series - Kid Combat: Volume 1: A Secret Lost.
The story itself is adventurous, suspenseful, and humorous. The characters have positive qualities. They are bonded in friendship and loyalty, supporting each other in word and deed. The characters use common sense, clever gadgets, and ingenuity to get out of sticky situations.
I have read aloud Kid Combat for the past few years to my third grade classes. As an educator, the story A Secret Lost lends itself to the teaching of basic reading strategies: characterization, prediction, and summarization. After each chapter was read aloud, “book chat” just happened. Students discussed the humorous and adventurous escapades and began to relate to a favorite character. As an adult, I too was caught up in the exploits of Kid Combat and the members of SOCKs.
As an educator I enjoyed seeing the excitement and undivided attention of my class as I read aloud each new chapter.
For me the most rewarding assessment happened when I read aloud the last sentence of the last chapter of Kid Combat: A Secret Lost. The children begged me to read it again!
We also had the opportunity to meet the author, Chris Helwink. when he visited our school. He immediately established a bond with the students. He shared his writing experiences and posed for numerous photos.

has read Volume One to multiple classes.

I read Kid Combat to my class this past fall and they just loved it. They found it intriguing and adventuresome. The kids were in awe of a character that could organize, plan and execute missions that were so real-life and realistic. They especially loved how ingenious all the characters were. I think it gave them a chance to imagine how it would be if kids had more of a say in their lives. (Kids with a purpose)
Right from the beginning this story held my students attention. Many of them couldn't wait until I put the book down, so they could pick it up and flip through it.
I plan on reading this book to my next group of students. The class I read this book to was a fifth grade class. As a teacher, I think this book is cleverly written. It is imaginative and sprinkled throughout with so many descriptive words that children get a good picture of the characters and action going on.
We all look forward to the next sequel!
